True North Builders is founded on a family tradition, now in its fifth
generation. That tradition began with George Zechariah Pickrel (1872-1964), who
passed his experience on to his son LeRoy Pickrel (1896-1977), who in turn
passed it on to his son Donald Pickrel, who tutored his son, Craig Pickrel,
President of True North Builders.
Craig Pickrel graduated
from
Colorado
State
University
with a degree in Construction Management in 1973.
Upon Craig‘s graduation, he and Don formed Pickrel Construction, Inc.
This partnership lasted until 1990. During that time Pickrel
Construction, Inc. did commercial and residential work throughout
Colorado
. Today, Pickrel Construction, Inc. lives on, owned by Craig’s
brother, Brad.
Wanting to expand his experience and knowledge, Craig’s focus changed
to production residential construction.
After years of running his own construction business, Craig’s tutoring began
again. In 1990 he went to work for
a leading national home builder, Centex Homes. The President of Centex at that
time was Miles Grant. Miles and
Craig were High School classmates, played football together and graduated from
Colorado
State
University
with the same degree in Construction Management.
Craig worked at Centex for ten years and ended his tenure there running
the construction operation city-wide.
Craig and his wife, Jacki, founded True North Builders in 2000.
Their focus has remained in residential construction, building custom
homes and remodeling. Craig and
Miles relationship of friendship and trust has also continued.
Miles formed his own home building company after leaving Centex and
asked True North Builders to manage the construction operation.
Today, True North Builders is a member of the
Metro Denver HBA, HBA Council of Remodelors and is an active participant in a
movement among home building known as High Performance Homes. The focus of this
movement is to take the construction of new and remodeled homes beyond just
great floor plans and beautiful interior finishes, to homes that address issues
like comfort, durability, safety, and air quality and energy efficiency.
True North Builders continues its heritage. The fifth generation, Craig and
Jacki’s daughters and son-in-laws, are taking leadership roles in the company’s
future. We have built our future on
our past…our past experience, our family ties, our professional relationships
and on a commitment to building it right the first time.
